학습 자료 둘러보기 →Suspect APSGN in children aged 5 to 15 years presenting with a history of a recent streptococcal infection (1 to 6 weeks prior). The hallmark clinical picture is the sudden onset of periorbital edema and cola-colored urine.
The dark urine results from glomerular hematuria, where red blood cells leak through damaged capillary walls and degrade in the renal tubules. The edema is a consequence of sodium and water retention due to a reduced glomerular filtration rate.
Do not confuse this with a urinary tract infection. Burning on urination and frequency are not features of glomerulonephritis. Also, monitor for hypertension and oliguria, which are critical components of nephritic syndrome requiring immediate intervention.
