This neurologic emergency can rapidly progress to vomiting, visual disturbances, seizures, and unresponsiveness. Immediate intervention focuses on gradual blood pressure reduction to prevent cerebral edema and irreversible brain injury.
Do not delay treatment to manage oliguria or laboratory abnormalities. The priority is the neurologic threat. Lower blood pressure cautiously; rapid drops can cause cerebral ischemia.
