Assess distal pulses, capillary refill, skin color, temperature, and sensation, particularly over the deltoid muscle. Document any deficits immediately.
Never apply heat in the acute phase; use cold therapy to reduce swelling. Do not encourage active range of motion before reduction, as this risks severe neurovascular injury.
