The nurse's immediate action is to notify the physician and prepare for emergency leukapheresis. This procedure provides rapid cytoreduction to reverse end-organ damage. Supportive measures like oxygen or treating thrombocytopenia are secondary to definitive cytoreductive therapy.
Do not delay cytoreduction to treat symptoms. Administering analgesics for headache can mask neurological deterioration. Platelet transfusion does not resolve the microvascular sludging causing active cerebral ischemia.
