학습 자료 둘러보기 →In an adolescent with cystic fibrosis and increased respiratory distress, the most critical assessment is oxygenation status. An SpO2 of 88% on room air with increased work of breathing indicates severe hypoxemia and imminent risk of respiratory failure.
Hypoxemia triggers pulmonary vasoconstriction, which can rapidly elevate pulmonary artery pressure and precipitate pulmonary hypertension, a life-threatening complication in CF. Immediate nursing actions include applying supplemental oxygen and preparing for escalation of respiratory support.
Do not delay intervention for other findings like fever or weight loss. While important, they do not pose the same immediate threat to airway and breathing as acute hypoxemia. Prioritize based on the ABCs.
