학습 자료 둘러보기 →A child with epiglottitis typically presents with an absence of spontaneous cough, significant drooling, and a preference for the tripod position. Stridor is often inspiratory and may only be present when the child is agitated.
In contrast, croup features a distinctive barking cough and hoarse voice. The onset is typically slower, and the child rarely appears as toxic or anxious as in epiglottitis.
Do not inspect the throat or agitate the child if epiglottitis is suspected. This can trigger complete airway obstruction. Keep the child calm, allow a position of comfort, and prepare for emergency airway management.
