학습 자료 둘러보기 →The classic triad of epiglottitis is acute onset of high fever, drooling, and respiratory distress. The child often assumes the tripod position and presents with a muffled voice.
A cardinal sign is reluctance to lie down (orthopnea). In the supine position, the swollen epiglottis can fall back and completely obstruct the airway, leading to rapid decompensation.
Do not inspect the throat with a tongue depressor or agitate the child. This can trigger laryngospasm and complete airway occlusion. Keep the child calm, allow a position of comfort, and prepare for emergency airway management.
