학습 자료 둘러보기 →A febrile seizure lasting 8 minutes is no longer a simple febrile seizure. The duration crosses the threshold (>5 minutes) into a prolonged febrile seizure, a strong predictor of recurrence and progression to febrile status epilepticus (FSE).
The immediate priority is to establish IV access and prepare anticonvulsants (e.g., benzodiazepines). Time-to-treatment is critical; anticonvulsant efficacy decreases dramatically after 10 minutes of continuous seizure activity.
Do not delay emergency preparations for detailed history-taking or fever management. Antipyretics do not stop or prevent seizures. A postictal child who is lethargic but maintaining an airway is not the priority for repositioning over preparing for a potential second, prolonged seizure.
