학습 자료 둘러보기 →The critical distinction is the pathogen's particle size and behavior in air. Airborne pathogens (e.g., TB, measles, varicella) are carried by droplet nuclei (≤5 microns) that remain suspended for hours and travel long distances.
Droplet pathogens (e.g., influenza, pertussis) travel on large respiratory droplets (> 5 microns) that fall to the ground within 3 feet. A standard surgical mask is sufficient for droplet precautions.
For airborne precautions, an AIIR (negative pressure room) and a fit-tested N95 respirator are mandatory. A surgical mask is not a substitute for an N95 respirator when airborne precautions are required.
