학습 자료 둘러보기 →Upon exposure to an alkali substance like sodium hydroxide, immediate and continuous ocular irrigation is the single most critical action. The goal is to dilute the chemical and normalize the tear film pH to 7.0–7.3.
Begin irrigation with normal saline or lactated Ringer's solution. Continue for at least 30 minutes or until the conjunctival sac pH normalizes, using 1–2 liters of fluid. Evert the eyelids to ensure removal of any particulate matter.
Never delay irrigation for history-taking, visual acuity testing, or pain medication. Do not apply an eye patch before irrigation is complete, as this traps the chemical and accelerates liquefactive necrosis.
