학습 자료 둘러보기 →For a patient with a 6mm ureteral stone and severe flank pain, the nursing process mandates assessment before intervention. The highest priority is to assess for signs of urinary obstruction and infection.
A lodged stone causes hydronephrosis and increased pressure. The most critical danger is obstructive pyelonephritis, a closed-space infection that can rapidly progress to urosepsis. Assess for fever, chills, tachycardia, and decreasing urine output.
Do not aggressively push fluids or administer analgesics before ruling out complete obstruction or infection. Increasing fluid intake against a complete block can worsen hydronephrosis and accelerate clinical deterioration.
