학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of renal colic is colicky pain that waxes and wanes in intensity. This paroxysmal pattern results from rhythmic ureteral smooth muscle spasms attempting to expel the obstruction.
Pain typically originates in the costovertebral angle (CVA) or flank and radiates anteriorly and inferiorly along the ureter's path toward the groin or genitalia. This specific radiation corresponds to the referred pain distribution of the genitofemoral and ilioinguinal nerves.
Associated symptoms often include nausea and vomiting, which are triggered by the intense visceral pain and shared autonomic innervation between the renal pelvis and the gastrointestinal tract.
Constant dull suprapubic pain or burning with urination suggests bladder pathology like cystitis, not ureteral obstruction. The absence of waxing/waning flank-to-groin pain makes renal colic less likely.
