학습 자료 둘러보기 →A thunderclap headache reaching peak intensity in seconds is the hallmark symptom of a ruptured cerebral aneurysm. The resulting subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) introduces blood into the CSF, acting as a direct irritant.
This chemical irritation causes chemical meningitis. The most specific early assessment findings are nuchal rigidity (stiff neck) and a positive Kernig's sign (pain/resistance with knee extension when hip is flexed). These signs develop within hours of the bleed.
Do not confuse these early meningeal signs with late signs of increased ICP like Cushing's triad (hypertension, bradycardia, irregular respirations) or unilateral pupil dilation (CN III compression). Meningeal signs are key for early SAH detection.
