학습 자료 둘러보기 →A positive antinuclear antibody (ANA) test is the most sensitive screening tool for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A homogeneous pattern specifically suggests antibodies to dsDNA or histones, which are highly associated with SLE.
While 95% of SLE patients have a positive ANA, it is not specific. The diagnosis must be supported by clinical findings like a malar rash and laboratory tests such as anti-dsDNA or anti-Smith antibodies.
A positive ANA alone is not diagnostic for SLE. It can be positive in other autoimmune diseases, infections, and even in a small percentage of the healthy population. Always correlate with clinical presentation.
