학습 자료 둘러보기 →The immediate postoperative priority after T&A is protecting the airway. Position the child prone or side-lying with the head slightly lowered. This uses gravity to facilitate drainage of blood and secretions from the mouth, preventing pooling in the pharynx that can trigger laryngospasm or aspiration.
Children with a history of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are at extreme risk. They exhibit heightened sensitivity to residual anesthetics and opioids, increasing the danger of respiratory depression and obstruction. Airway assessment and positioning take precedence over all other interventions.
Never place the child supine immediately post-op. Frequent swallowing may be the only sign of occult bleeding. Do not encourage oral intake until protective airway reflexes have fully returned to prevent aspiration.
