The Rinne test is critical for bedside diagnosis. It will be negative (bone conduction > air conduction) on the affected side. The Weber test typically lateralizes to the ear with greater conductive loss.
Do not confuse with sensorineural loss. Otosclerosis is not associated with vertigo or sudden onset. Hearing loss is usually bilateral but often asymmetrical, and tinnitus may be present.
