학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a persistent otorrhea lasting over 6 weeks through a tympanic membrane perforation. The drainage is typically thick and purulent.
This condition is almost always associated with conductive hearing loss. This occurs because the perforation and middle ear fluid disrupt the mechanical transmission of sound to the inner ear.
Do not confuse with acute otitis media, which presents with sudden, severe pain and fever. A clear, watery discharge should raise immediate suspicion for a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak, a medical emergency.
