학습 자료 둘러보기 →For a client with legal blindness, the unfamiliar hospital room is the most immediate safety hazard. The priority intervention is to orient the client to the room layout using a clock-face or descriptive method (e.g., "The bathroom is at 2 o'clock from your bed").
This orientation must be reinforced by maintaining a consistent environment. Furniture, personal items, and the call bell must never be moved without re-orienting the client. A predictable space allows the client to create a cognitive map, reducing the risk of collisions and falls.
Do not rely solely on increased lighting or proximity to the nurses' station. These are adjuncts, not substitutes, for a structured orientation. The client's fear of falling is a valid clinical indicator that the environment must be made navigable immediately upon admission.
