학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of presbyopia is a gradual, bilateral difficulty focusing on close objects, typically beginning after age 40. Distance vision remains relatively unaffected because the rigid lens can still maintain a flatter configuration for far focus.
During a visual assessment, use a near-vision chart (e.g., Jaeger card) held 14 inches away. The client may unconsciously move the chart farther back to compensate. This is distinct from myopia, where distance vision is primarily impaired.
Do not confuse presbyopia with sudden vision changes. Acute angle-closure glaucoma presents with sudden severe eye pain, halos around lights, and requires immediate referral. Chronic open-angle glaucoma causes gradual peripheral vision loss, not central near-vision blur.
