학습 자료 둘러보기 →A tunnel infection involves the subcutaneous tract and cuff. It presents with redness, swelling, and pus drainage along the catheter pathway, often with pain over the cuff.
This complication is a catheter-related emergency. Unlike peritonitis, it is frequently refractory to antibiotics alone due to biofilm formation on the catheter cuff and tract.
Immediate intervention typically requires catheter removal and systemic antibiotics. Delaying removal risks progression to refractory peritonitis, abscess formation, and loss of peritoneal membrane function.
