학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of peritoneal dialysis-associated peritonitis (PDAP) is cloudy dialysate effluent. The first and most critical nursing action is to obtain a dialysate sample for culture and sensitivity testing.
The sample must be collected before initiating antibiotic therapy. Administering antibiotics first can suppress bacterial growth and cause a false-negative culture result, delaying targeted treatment.
Do not delay specimen collection. Send the dialysate for cell count with differential and Gram stain in addition to culture. An effluent WBC count > 100 cells/µL with > 50% neutrophils confirms the diagnosis.
