This halts the extracorporeal circulation, preventing return of air, inflammatory mediators, or continued blood loss.
After stopping the procedure, keep the client's blood lines clamped. Do not return the blood in the extracorporeal circuit to the client, as it may contain harmful air or activated substances. Assess vital signs, administer oxygen, and call for emergency medical support while maintaining vascular access.
Never increase the ultrafiltration rate in a hypotensive crisis; this will worsen hypovolemia and precipitate cardiovascular collapse. Avoid placing the client in Trendelenburg position as a primary response, as current evidence does not support its use for intradialytic hypotension.
