학습 자료 둘러보기 →Sudden onset of chest pain and shortness of breath during hemodialysis is a medical emergency, most commonly indicating an air embolism or pneumothorax. These complications are directly linked to vascular access, especially with central venous catheters.
If air embolism is suspected, immediately clamp the catheter and disconnect the bloodlines. Position the patient in the left lateral Trendelenburg position to trap air in the right atrium and administer 100% oxygen.
Do not confuse this emergency with more common dialysis side effects like hypotension or cramping. Delaying intervention for an air embolism can rapidly lead to cardiovascular collapse and death.
