학습 자료 둘러보기 →The most critical presentation of a pulmonary embolism (PE) is the classic triad: sudden onset of severe dyspnea, pleuritic chest pain, and hemoptysis. Hemoptysis signals pulmonary infarction, a late sign of tissue necrosis.
In a postoperative total hip replacement patient, this triad indicates a likely massive, central embolus causing right ventricular strain. This is a medical emergency requiring immediate action, not just monitoring.
Do not confuse this with common postoperative findings like mild hypoxia, tachycardia, or anxiety. The sudden onset and combination of all three symptoms (dyspnea, pleuritic pain, hemoptysis) is the key differentiator from a smaller PE or atelectasis. Activate the rapid response team immediately.
