학습 자료 둘러보기 →Immediately after thoracentesis, position the client on the unaffected side for at least 1 hour. This uses gravity to promote sealing of the puncture site at the visceral-parietal pleural interface and allows the affected lung to rest.
Maintain strict bed rest during this period. Monitor vital signs and respiratory status every 15 minutes for the first hour, then as ordered. Assess for signs of pneumothorax, including sudden chest pain, tachypnea, and tracheal deviation.
Do not position the client on the affected side or allow ambulation immediately post-procedure. A chest X-ray is always required after thoracentesis to rule out iatrogenic pneumothorax before activity is advanced.
