학습 자료 둘러보기 →In a patient with a shortened, externally rotated leg, immediate neurovascular assessment is the priority. Check distal pulses, capillary refill, sensation, and motor function to rule out vascular injury or nerve compression from displaced bone fragments.
The window for revascularization is critically short, typically 6 to 8 hours. Delayed detection of absent pulses or compartment syndrome can lead to irreversible ischemia and limb loss.
Do not delay the neurovascular check for pain assessment, vital signs, or a complete history. These are secondary and can be performed after confirming the limb is not in immediate danger.
