In contrast, a gallbladder obstructed by gallstones is typically non-palpable due to chronic inflammation and fibrosis. If a stone causes acute cholecystitis, the patient will present with pain and a positive Murphy's sign, not a painless mass.
Do not rely solely on the absence of pain. A palpable gallbladder in a jaundiced patient is a red flag requiring urgent imaging, such as a CT scan or MRCP, to rule out malignancy.
