The priority is to inspect the scrotal site for bleeding and swelling every 15-30 minutes initially. A scrotal hematoma is the most common acute complication after orchiopexy.
Assess for a rapidly expanding, firm, or discolored scrotal mass. Increased pressure within the scrotal sac can impair testicular perfusion, risking testicular atrophy or necrosis.
Do not apply ice directly to the scrotum without a specific provider order, as vasoconstriction may further compromise blood flow to the newly positioned testicle. Restrict activity to protect the surgical site.
