학습 자료 둘러보기 →For a 15 kg child prescribed morphine 0.1 mg/kg, the correct dose is 1.5 mg. The most critical safety step is an independent double-check of the calculation with another nurse using a pediatric dosing chart.
Morphine is a high-alert medication. Errors in pediatric dosing are often 10-fold or more due to weight-based calculations. The second nurse must perform the calculation from scratch, without knowledge of the first nurse's result, to avoid confirmation bias.
Never administer undiluted IV opioids to children. Always dilute per protocol and administer via slow IV push over 4-5 minutes with continuous monitoring of respiratory rate and sedation score. Have naloxone readily available.
