학습 자료 둘러보기 →For a symptomatic newborn (jitteriness, poor feeding, high-pitched cry) with blood glucose <40-45 mg/dL, the priority is immediate IV dextrose 10% mini-bolus at 2 mL/kg over 1 minute.
This provides 200 mg/kg of dextrose to rapidly correct neuroglycopenia. The bolus must be followed immediately by a continuous IV dextrose infusion to prevent rebound hypoglycemia from ongoing hyperinsulinemia.
Never give oral feeds to a symptomatic hypoglycemic infant with neurological signs; the risk of aspiration is high and glucose absorption is too slow. Do not delay IV access to notify the provider—initiate the bolus per standing protocol.
