학습 자료 둘러보기 →A transverse nasal crease is a horizontal line across the nose caused by the child repeatedly rubbing the nose upward, a gesture called the allergic salute.
Allergic shiners are dark circles under the eyes due to infraorbital venous congestion, often accompanied by the Dennie-Morgan lines (extra skin folds below the lower eyelids).
Examine the nasal mucosa for a pale, boggy, bluish appearance, which is classic for allergy, rather than the erythematous mucosa of an infection.
Do not confuse clear, watery rhinorrhea with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak. A positive beta-2 transferrin test confirms CSF. Purulent discharge or unilateral symptoms warrant evaluation for infection or a foreign body.
