학습 자료 둘러보기 →A Rinne test compares air conduction (AC) via the ear canal to bone conduction (BC) via the mastoid process. Normally, AC is 2-3 times longer than BC (AC > BC).
In conductive hearing loss, the pathology blocks air-conducted sound. The Rinne test will show BC ≥ AC. A finding of BC = AC is an early sign of a mild conductive deficit, which progresses to BC > AC as the loss worsens.
A BC > AC result is a "negative Rinne" and is pathognomonic for conductive loss. Always confirm with the Weber test, which will lateralize to the affected ear in conductive loss.
