학습 자료 둘러보기 →The primary goal of continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) is to maintain catheter patency by washing out blood and clots. The nurse titrates the flow rate based on the color and consistency of the outflow.
If drainage is bright red or contains clots, immediately increase the irrigation rate to 200-300 mL/hr or faster to prevent clot retention.
As bleeding subsides and urine clears to pink or light amber, gradually decrease the rate to maintain a light pink outflow without overdistending the bladder.
A sudden decrease in drainage or severe bladder spasms with a stopped outflow signals a catheter obstruction. Manual irrigation or urgent provider notification is required to prevent bladder rupture.
