Following decompression, a chest tube must be inserted at the 4th or 5th intercostal space in the midaxillary line for definitive management.
Do not delay decompression for a chest X-ray if clinical signs like tracheal deviation, absent breath sounds, and hypotension are present. This is a clinical diagnosis.
