학습 자료 둘러보기 →An acute gout attack presents with sudden onset of severe, burning pain, typically in a single joint like the great toe (podagra). The affected joint will be red, swollen, and warm to the touch due to the intense inflammatory response to monosodium urate crystals.
The pain peaks within 12 to 24 hours and is often described as excruciating. Even light touch from a bedsheet can be intolerable. This rapid escalation distinguishes it from chronic arthritic conditions.
Do not confuse with a septic joint, which can present identically. If fever, systemic symptoms, or risk factors for infection are present, joint fluid aspiration is mandatory to rule out septic arthritis before diagnosing gout.
