학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of osteoarthritis (OA) is mechanical pain. Joint stiffness and pain worsen with activity and weight-bearing due to cartilage breakdown, and improve with rest.
In contrast, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) presents with inflammatory pain. Morning stiffness lasts > 1 hour, joints are symmetrically involved, and systemic symptoms like fatigue may be present.
OA morning stiffness is brief, often called the gel phenomenon, resolving in < 30 minutes. Joint involvement is typically asymmetrical and non-systemic.
Do not confuse OA with inflammatory or infectious arthritis. Warm, red, swollen joints with fever suggest septic arthritis or an RA flare, requiring urgent evaluation, not routine OA management.
