Differentiate from basal cell carcinoma (pearly, smooth nodules with telangiectasias) and melanoma (asymmetrical, irregular borders).
A lesion that becomes thickened, tender, or ulcerated may indicate progression to squamous cell carcinoma and requires immediate biopsy.
