A WBC count of 3,200/mm³ is a critical finding. It explains the history of recurrent infections and requires immediate further investigation, including a WBC differential to identify which specific cell line (neutrophils, lymphocytes) is affected.
Do not rely on normal hemoglobin, vital signs, or other non-immune markers to rule out immune deficiency. A normal complete blood count (CBC) does not exclude functional immune disorders, but an abnormal WBC count is a direct, actionable red flag.
