Cleanse the area gently using only lukewarm water and a mild, non-alkaline cleanser if approved. Pat the skin dry without rubbing. Avoid friction, adhesive tapes, and extreme temperatures (heating pads or ice packs).
Never apply products within 4 hours before treatment. This can cause a bolus effect, increasing the surface dose and worsening skin damage. Instruct patients to wear loose-fitting, soft cotton clothing to reduce mechanical trauma.
