In contrast, Panic Disorder is defined by recurrent, unexpected panic attacks with a persistent fear of future attacks. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) features intrusive obsessions that trigger repetitive compulsions aimed at reducing anxiety. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) involves re-experiencing a traumatic event through flashbacks and nightmares, coupled with avoidance behaviors.
Do not confuse the diffuse, persistent worry of GAD with the acute, episodic fear of a panic attack. Always assess the duration and focus of symptoms; GAD worry is pervasive and long-standing, not event-specific or transient.
