This maneuver creates a sudden increase in intrathoracic pressure to simulate an artificial cough. If back blows are unsuccessful, follow with 5 chest thrusts (infant face-up, using two fingers on the lower sternum).
Never perform blind finger sweeps in an infant, as this can push the obstruction deeper. Do not shake the infant. Begin CPR only if the infant becomes unresponsive.
