The MMR vaccine is produced in chick embryo fibroblast cultures, not in eggs, and is safe even with a severe egg allergy. DTaP and Varicella vaccines are not manufactured using egg products and are safe.
Always screen for allergy severity. A severe reaction requires the nurse to question the order before administration. For patients with egg allergy and a non-severe reaction (e.g., hives only), the inactivated influenza vaccine can be administered with a 30-minute observation period.
