Perform hand hygiene before and after every patient contact, and after removing gloves. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, gowns, masks, and eye protection based on the anticipated exposure risk, not the patient's known infection status.
Do not reserve glove use only for patients with known infections. Many pathogens are transmissible during asymptomatic or prodromal phases. Relying on a diagnosis creates a false sense of security and increases exposure risk.
