학습 자료 둘러보기 →A client with ocular melanoma reporting sudden onset of flashing lights (photopsia) and floaters must be evaluated for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The tumor can cause overlying retinal degeneration, leading to a retinal tear and rapid detachment.
Prioritize this finding as a vision-threatening emergency. Immediate action includes keeping the client NPO, maintaining bed rest with head of bed elevated per order, and facilitating an emergent ophthalmology consult for potential surgical repair. Time to intervention is critical for visual prognosis.
Do not dismiss new-onset flashes and floaters as benign in a patient with an intraocular tumor. A gradual decrease in vision or mild fatigue does not carry the same immediate threat of permanent vision loss as an acute retinal tear or detachment.
