학습 자료 둘러보기 →The defining symptom of pleurisy is pleuritic chest pain, described as a sharp, stabbing sensation that worsens with inspiration. This occurs because inflamed pleural layers grate against each other during breathing.
Patients often present with splinting of the affected side and rapid, shallow breaths to minimize pain. The pain is typically unilateral and localized. Auscultation may reveal a pleural friction rub, a leathery, grating sound heard during both inspiration and expiration.
Differentiate pleuritic pain from cardiac ischemic pain, which is often described as pressure or squeezing and is not typically worsened by inspiration. Always rule out life-threatening causes like pulmonary embolism or pneumothorax in patients with acute onset pleuritic pain.
