학습 자료 둘러보기 →The primary goal of antipyretic therapy in a child is to treat fever-associated discomfort (myalgia, headache, fatigue), not to normalize the temperature. Administer acetaminophen or ibuprofen at appropriate weight-based doses.
Fever increases insensible fluid loss through the skin and lungs. Combine antipyretics with active encouragement of oral fluid intake to prevent dehydration. Monitor for signs like decreased urine output (<1 mL/kg/hr) and dry mucous membranes.
Promote rest to reduce metabolic demand. Activity is not appropriate during the acute febrile phase. Position the child for comfort, avoiding prone positioning unless indicated for specific respiratory conditions.
Never restrict fluids in a febrile child. Avoid alternating acetaminophen and ibuprofen unless specifically directed by a provider due to the risk of dosing errors and toxicity.
