학습 자료 둘러보기 →The hallmark of trigeminal neuralgia is a paroxysmal, electric shock-like pain that is unilateral and lasts from a few seconds to 2 minutes.
Pain is triggered by innocuous stimuli such as light touch, chewing, talking, or a breeze. This occurs due to ephaptic crosstalk from demyelination at the nerve root entry zone.
Do not mistake this for dental pain. TN is frequently misdiagnosed, leading to unnecessary tooth extractions or root canals. A normal dental exam with trigger-evoked pain is a key differentiator.
