If the baby's heart rate drops, you need to know WHY and WHAT to do.
Memorize VEAL CHOP and the LION intervention!
You may get a calculation question about the due date or history.
Look at the monitor. Is the baby stressed? (Normal FHR: 110-160 bpm)

Cord Compression (Baby is squeezing the cord) |
Reposition Mom (Side-lying or Knee-chest). Give O2. |

Head Compression (Baby is moving down) |
None (Document) This is normal as labor progresses. Prepare for delivery. |
| Accelerations (HR goes up) |
Okay (Oxygenated) (Happy baby) |
None This is a good sign! |
| Late Decelerations (Starts after contraction peak) |
Placental Insufficiency (Baby is NOT getting O2!) |
EMERGENCY! Execute LION protocol immediately. |
When you see Late Decelerations, do L.I.O.N. immediately!
